How to Play

If you are new to the game, you will first need to think about what type of character you want to create. You will start out with a human character card and the ability to pick your own unique name, customize your appearance, and choose which server you want to play on. Beginners have the advantage of free beginner service which includes beginner potions, Nao soul stones, free daily rebirth, heart stickers (collect 100 to obtain "the Courteous" title), and shadow crystals until you reach cumulative level 1000. If you are lucky, you will also get a free DevCat item bag to set up personal shop.

First choose what type of character you would like to make. There are two talent categories to choose from, combat talents or life talents. Mabinogi is based on life skills and combat skills. If you are interested in fighting, choose one of the beginner combat talents (close combat is highly recommended to all players). It is not wise to focus on life skills only as certain parts of the game require materials which can only be obtained by killing monsters. Homesteads for example require building materials such as building stones which can only be obtained by defeating golems or pursuing outlaws. Once you choose your talent you can enter game and start playing.

You will receive instructions on how to complete quests. The quest window gives you a list of some of the things you can do around town. Although the quests are optional, it is recommended to complete them in order to receive free beginner items such as the Tir Chonaill return stone, Moongate book, and beginner weapons/equipment which will be helpful to those starting out at a low level.

The beginner board in front of Chief Duncan's house provides lessons you can take which will teach you the basics of how to fight or how to do life skills. You can try each talent and reset your skills at the end of each day so long as all of your characters are still under level 1000. It is up to you where you want to invest your AP into each skill and what talent/build you are trying to achieve.

You will also need to learn how to make money. The best way to earn money as a beginner is by doing part-time jobs in Dunbarton, dungeoning, completing quests, or setting up a personal shop. Shearing sheep will drop wool which can be traded for Holy Water from the healer Manus. You can sell the water in your shop for 20k gold/10 stack. Kristell also gives Holy Water as a reward. Glenis gives a good amount of gold for completing her part-time job. You can use the clock window to set up alarms that will remind you throughout the day of the report deadlines.

You also get a free horse and an eagle by doing the beginner quests. Obtain an assistant elf card by talking to Castanea in Filia and an assistant giant card by speaking to Krug in Vales. Your character creation screen will now have 3 characters and 2 pets to begin your brand new journey on Mabinogi.
